What I offer as a Postpartum Doula:
I focus on providing emotional, physical, informational and hands-on support to parents. To help them be able to rest and recover and to help them learn the skills and gain confidence they need to make a smooth adjustment.
During overnight shifts I provide full infant care while parents sleep. If mother is breastfeeding I bring the baby to her for feeds, when she is finished I change, burp, re-swaddle and settle baby back to sleep.
If mother is pumping in the night I collect the milk, store it and wash pump and parts.
If baby is formula fed I take over all feeds while mother gets much needed rest through the night.
During day time shifts I provide infant care while parents rest, take naps, go for walks, doctors appointments etc. Educating parents in baby care and feeding methods. Teach them to swaddle and show techniques to help settle the baby to sleep. I also help with baby laundry, bottle washing/sterilizing, organizing babies room etc.
Every family is different and have their own specific wants and needs. I will take time to talk with parents, offer advice and help come up with a plan that works for them.
